Local Area - Where are our Activities Run?

We are based in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, in the beautiful Swansea Valley, but our adventures take place all across South Wales from the mountains to the sea. The best bit is we meet you there, this means less time travelling and more time having adventures!

This map shows the area where our adventures take place and the sort of activity you can do in different spots, we hope that this helps you plan where to stay and what else to do while you are visiting, but it won’t help you find the meeting place – we’ll send all that information in your joining instructions.

The most popular spots to base yourself when visiting South Wales are:

Sitting on the Northern side of the Brecon Beacons National Park, on the border between South and Mid Wales sits the historic market town of Brecon.

The town was first settled by the Romans who used it as a base from which to conquer Wales. It still serves this original purpose today, providing the perfect place to base yourself close to the mountains but with all the services, history and culture of this thriving community.

In Brecon you can find the full spectrum of accommodation for you visit, from camping to luxury hotels and bunk barns to town house B&B’s. No matter what your group size or budget, you can find the right place to rest at the end of an adventurous day. Just ask for our recommendations…

Brecon was built by the river under the mountains. It is this beautiful location that makes it such a popular spot for all sorts of outdoor activities like Mountain Walking, Bushcraft, Caving and Climbing in the Brecon Beacons, Gorge Walking or Kayaking and Canoeing on the Rivers or canal, and so much more…

The picturesque town is home to top end restaurants, markets, book shops, ice cream parlours and cream tea shops. It is host to music and food festivals including the world class Brecon Jazz Festival. More information on Brecon and what’s on can be found on the Brecon Beacons visitor site.

The Brecon Beacons are one of Britain’s breathing spaces, they offer beautiful views both day and night. On a clear day you can see over to England, down to Devon and out to the Irish Sea. On a clear night you can see the Milky Way and all major constellations, one of the reasons that the area has been awarded “Dark Sky Reserve” status.

The city of Swansea makes the perfect setting for an adventure holiday, nestled between the mountains and the sea it provides great access to some of the best adventure spots South Wales has to offer, as well as being a vibrant cultural hub itself.

We are proud to be members of Tourism Swansea Bay, the local independent trade organisation for the Swansea, Neath and Gower area.

Within 20m miles of Swansea you’ll find the rolling hills for walking, narrow river gorges for gorge walking, adventure walks and underground caverns for caving all in the Brecon Beacons National Park. There are sea cliffs and coastal crags for climbing, coasteering and beach days all along the Gower coast; and canals, reservoirs and the sea for water sports like canoeing, kayaking and surfing. Closer to Swansea itself are open areas and woodland perfect for orienteering and bushcraft.

Swansea boasts hundreds of hotels and restaurants to suit every taste and pocket, as well as theatres, cinemas, festivals and events all year round. Gower is sometimes known as the ‘Garden of Swansea’ and is a peninsular just a few miles to the west. It was declared Britain’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956 and has maintained its charm and character, offering a place to relax, explore and enjoy.

Swansea is just a few minutes from the M4, providing easy access from Bristol, London and the South East.

The capital of Wales does not disappoint; sport, music, entertainment, history and a rich and varied culture are all to be found in this modern city so its easy to see why this is the most popular visitor destination in Wales.

Cardiff Bay offers a metropolitan feel with waterside cafes and open promenades. The castle it steeped in history as well as making an excellent venue of big concerts if the Millennium stadium is taken up with sporting events and there’s big-name comedy in the Arena. Throw into the mix that’s it’s the 6th best shopping destination in the UK and you’ll find something for everyone.

We’re a big fan of the adventures to be had outside the city like the canyoning, coasteering, climbing, caving and mountain walks that can be reached easily within an hour.

Carmarthen is beautiful town set in its own stunning county of Carmarthenshire. History, natural beauty and adventure are found in every corner, from the coastal castles and private bays to hidden caves and rolling hills.

South West Wales has been drawing tourists for hundreds of years and had a cult following of regular visitors, retuning time and again to more of this peaceful land. As a member of the Carmarthenshire Tourism Association, we’re proud to promote the Activities and Adventures this area has to offer.

When it comes to places to stay there are no end of options for visitors to pick from. Campsites, Hostels, Bed & Breakfasts, Farm Stays, Hotels, Spas and Retreats; no matter what your ideal accommodation is, Carmarthenshire has it all. Carmarthen is in easy reach by rail line or just off the end of the M4 in South Wales, the secluded parts take a little longer to reach, but it’s always worth waiting for.

Some of the best activities to try in the area are Caving, Coasteering and Orienteering; or why not join us for a guided walk and get to know the real Carmarthenshire with Castles and Caves thrown in too.
