BCA Local Cave Leader Award - Training and Assessment

The Local Cave and Mine Leader Award (LCMLA) Scheme is managed by the British Caving Association (BCA). The scheme provides an award recognising the competence of those wishing to take responsibility for others underground, for the benefit of employers or others in authority. The main considerations are equally the safety of the group and the conservation of a fragile environment.

Hawk Adventures have been running Cave Leader training and assessment courses since 2001 and deliver the BCA syllabus at a pace that suits the learning styles of the course.

BCA Approved Provider

The LCMLA is broken down into Level 1 (horizontal caving) and Level 2 (vertical caving). We offer both Level 1 and 2 Training courses and Assessments, as well as vertical skills training in preparation for Level 2. Training is compulsory for the scheme and the assessments are carried out in two parts at both levels; Core Skills and Group Leadership. Training and Group Leadership (L1 M2 or L2 M4) Assessment can be done by the same Trainer/Assessor, but a different assessor is required for your Core Skills Assessment (L1 M1 or L2 M3).

Before attending a Training Course, all candidates must first register onto the British Caving Association LCMLA Scheme - you can register here.

Further details of this process and other information on the scheme can found on the BCA website.
